Looking to invest in Australian wild beauty through precious metals? Our Australian Kangaroo Gold Coin collection provides exceptional value, showcasing the Perth Mint's rich history and extraordinary craftsmanship.
The Perth Mint in Australia produces the Kangaroo gold coin. Created in 1986, it was known as the Gold Nugget coin, but in 1989, the image of a Kangaroo replaced the Nugget.
The coin's design is updated annually with a new Kangaroo image, adding numismatic value beyond intrinsic bullion worth. As a result, these coins can be appreciated over time.
The Kangaroo coin series is available in gold and silver. The Gold Kangaroo collection comes in 1 ounce and fractional-ounce variants, such as 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/2 oz, offering investors a range of options. Perth Mint unveiled the Kangaroo coin in silver in 2016, followed by its introduction in platinum in 2017.
The Australian Kangaroo Gold coin is accessible to all with differing budgets. These coins are available in weight categories of 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz weights with the denominations of 100 AUD, 50 AUD, 25 AUD, and 15 AUD, respectively.
Gold Kangaroo coins struck by the Perth Mint are recognized as legal tender in Australia. The value of these coins is determined by the Australian government.
Each year's issue portrays a new design of the Kangaroo in its natural habitat, with the effigy of the ruling monarch commemorating the country’s Sovereign history.
The kangaroo is Australia’s signature and identifying animal, like the Eagle to the United States of America; the Kangaroo gold coin is highly regarded among investors and collectors for its value, beauty, and appreciation.
Due to its market demand, legal tender status, and value, Australian kangaroo gold coins are easy to liquidate, meaning they can easily be sold, traded, and bought.
The Australian Kangaroo Gold Coins are highly secure regarding investment, and features like the micro-engraved letter “P” add to the security.
Tracing back to the roots of gold in Australia tells us its significance in Australia’s population, economy, and world recognition. Since the Australian Gold Rush in 1851, gold has been prominent in Australia, employing thousands of individuals.
Many iconic creations were released with abundant gold in the country, such as the Australian Gold Nugget by Gold Corporation, commonly known as the Perth Mint, in 1986. After the redesign in 1990, these gold coins became the Kangaroo Gold Coins, featuring the native Kangaroo and ruling monarch effigy.
These coins are struck in .9999 fine gold and are legal tenders under the Australian Currency Act of 1965. Since then, the Australian Kangaroo gold coins have undoubtedly been the face of Australia and the Perth Mint! For a detailed history of the kangaroo gold coins, read here.
The Perth Mint created the largest coin accredited by the Guinness Book of World Records in 2012, weighing a whopping 1 tonne, 80 cm wide, and 12 cm deep.
The Kangaroo Gold Coin’s obverse, featuring the effigy of the ruling monarch, traces its roots back to Australia's sovereign history. Since 1986 (when the Kangaroo gold coin was Gold Nugget), the gold coin featured the effigy of H. M. Queen Elizabeth II until her passing in 2023.
For the first time in 2023, the coin featured Dan Thorne's effigy of King Charles III. Along with the portrait, the obverse bears the identifying marks: country of issue, the monarch’s title, and denomination.
The reverse features a portrayal of the native Kangaroo in its natural habitat. With each issue, the design changes, depicting the kangaroo's lifestyle, habits, beauty, and significance of the Kangaroo. The inscriptions on the reverse represent purity, weight, and year of issue.
1986-1998: Introduced Raphael Maklouf’s third-generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
1999-2017: Featured Ian Rank-Broadley’s fourth-generation portrayal of H. M. Queen Elizabeth II on Kangaroo gold coins.
2017/18-2023: Introduced the final and fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark and the Memorial design after the Queen’s passing in 2022.
2023-Present: For the first time, featured a monarch other than Queen Elizabeth II by featuring King Charles III by Dan Thorne after the King’s coronation.
