The Rwanda African Ounce wildlife series was introduced in 2008 and features a different animal from the African continent for each annual release. The series is well established and highly popular on a global basis. This new 2020 1 oz Silver Rwanda African Ounce Bushbaby BU is an excellent addition to the on-going Rwanda wildlife series.

A Curious Looking Creature

The bushbaby is a relatively small primate, whose range covers much of Southern and Central Africa, extending as far as Rwanda. It is a curious looking creature, with its most notable physical characteristics being its large eyes and tall ears that stand straight up, and its long tail. It is nocturnal and climbs with ease, and runs quite swiftly. It is also an able jumper, utilizing its strong haunches, leaping from branch to branch. The bushbaby is a fine featured animal for the Rwanda wildlife series and is certain to be well received.

As Rwandan legal tender, the obverse displays a large image of the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Rwanda centered, with inscriptions encircling the rim, including "BANKI NKURU Y'U RWANDA AMAFARANGA MIRONGO ITANU." The face value of 50 Francs is also included.

Following the series layout, the reverse displays a large, topographical map of the African continent. The map fills half of the field, and even spills into the narrow rimband. The lower area features a very tender nesting scene of a mother bushbaby with her single young offspring. Inscriptions encircling the rim include, "AFRICAN OUNCE . 2020 . 1oz FINE SILVER 999."
