BOLD is very pleased to offer for your consideration this brand new release from New Zealand. Introducing the 2020 2oz Silver New Zealand Chatham Island Crested Penguin Proof coin. And it is a real beauty! Produced as a premium proof bullion offering, with a very limited mintage of only 750 for worldwide distribution, this stunning release is sure move quickly.
As noted in the official release,
"In 2019, an international team of researchers extracted mitochondrial DNA from subfossil bones discovered in sand dunes on the Chatham Islands. This research confirmed that until a few centuries ago a unique crested penguin species, Eudyptes warhami, existed on the Chatham Islands.
Undisturbed for millennia, the Chatham Islands were once teeming with wildlife. Although some species have been lost since human habitation, thankfully many endangered species have been revitalised in recent years due to conservation efforts."
As a legal tender offering of New Zealand, the obverse displays the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley. Inscriptions encircling the rim include, "ELIZABETH II . 2020 . NEW ZEALAND . 999 Ag 2oz."
The reverse features a beautifully colorized scene of a pair of Chatham Island crested penguins (as imagined by New Zealand artist Dave Burke). They are depicted standing closely together on a rocky outcropping on the coastline. A rough, stormy sea is active in the background, extending to the low horizon.
Completing the scene, arched behind the penguins, is displayed a series of flowing koru designs. Koru in the indigenous Maori language translates "loop or coil," which has reference to a spiral shape as seen in nature in many forms, suggesting living movement. Inscriptions within the narrow rimband include, "CHATHAM ISLAND CRESTED PENGUIN . FIVE DOLLARS."
This limited mintage, beautifully colorized proof Chatham Island Crested Penguin coin will make a wonderful addition to your fine bullion collection. Each coin is encapsulated within a remarkably fine hinged presentation case. You will certainly be pleased to openly display this beauty!
