2016 Silver 30 g China Panda (5 Coins)

China first introduced the Silver Panda coin series in 1983. Each year since, a new design variation of the Panda has been released. This 2016 is a beautiful example of the unique designs, which have made the series very popular among collectors and investors alike.

Beyond the design changes for 2016, the previous system of Troy ounces has been replaced by the metric system of grams. The 1 oz Silver Panda has been replaced with this brand new, 30 gram coin, still containing .999 fine Silver.

  • New for 2016: Contains 30 grams of .999 fine silver.
  • Obverse: The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests (The Temple of Heaven) of Beijing is depicted. Inscriptions include the Chinese characters for “People’s Republic of China” and the year.
  • Reverse: Features a full profile of a panda, comfortably reclining on a tree branch, with both arms wrapped around the branch. The background includes a wall of bamboo plants. The face value of 10 Yen is also shown, as is the new weight and purity “30 g Ag .999”.
  • Guaranteed by the People’s Bank of China.
  • Each coin comes in a plastic capsule to protect its beautiful design.

The Silver Pandas were first minted in 1983. The first 3 years of mintage were in proof quality condition, and had a limited mintage of 10,000 pieces for each year. No Silver Pandas were struck in 1986, but they have been minted every year since. Each year, the design of the panda changes, making them highly collectible. The only year they didn’t change design was 2002, which used the same design as 2001. Beginning with the 2016 release, all the mint’s bullion coins will be in metric weight.

The popularity of the China Panda series has grown exponentially over the years. The panda in Chinese culture is recognized as a symbol of peace and friendship. The Silver Panda’s relatively low mintage has not kept pace with the worldwide demand, which is of great interest to collectors. What’s not to love about a bullion series dedicated to one of the most adored animals in the world?
