2019 Silver 1 oz Antigua & Barbuda Rum Runner

Scottsdale Mint, in partnership with the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), is returning for the second annual release schedule of the extremely popular EC8 8-coin series, featuring the eight Eastern Caribbean Island nation members. Included are Antigua & Barbuda, Anguilla, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Each of the inaugural 2018 8-coin editions quickly became best-sellers, and maintained strong series popularity throughout the full release cycle. With the launch of this 2019 Silver 1 oz Antigua & Barbuda Rum Runner, we are expecting strong trade winds and high-seas to propel this ship into even greater global recognition!

Running the Rum ‑ Historical Intrigue!

First up is this quite amazing 2019 Silver 1 oz Antigua & Barbuda Rum Runner! The coin is issued under the banner of Antigua and Barbuda, the two major islands that comprise this single sovereign state. Positioned between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, these beautiful Caribbean islands are rich in exotic beauty. Antigua and Barbuda is not only rich in lush tropical beauty, but also in historical intrigue! This is where the theme of this stunning coin originates.

Colonial plantations, sugarcane, molasses, rum production, fierce competition, high taxes, rum running (smuggling), and yes, Royal Navy cutters, and pirates! To this day such stories bring to life the history of those dangerous times of the Caribbean Islands. They also have inspired another bold scene depicted on this first release of the EC8 2019 Coin Program, the 2019 Silver 1 oz Antigua & Barbuda Rum Runner.

Breathtaking Design

The obverse of the coin will be common to the eight EC8 2019 releases. The center inset features the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Distinctive laurels of evergreen shrubs frame the portrait on either side. A narrow band encircles the rim, which includes the inscriptions, “EASTERN CARIBBEAN CENTRAL BANK” at the top, and “1 oz .999 SILVER . QUEEN ELIZABETH II . 2 DOLLARS” at the bottom rim.

The reverse features an 18th century pirate ship, moored to the wood-planked loading dock. Rum barrels and crates are staged on the dock, while workmen stand by. As the work continues, one man stands at a higher level of the dock; likely the Captain. With his long-glass scope at his eye, he scans the horizon for any signs of danger, whether from approaching ships or storms. Consistent with Scottsdale’s design standards and craftsmanship, the fineness of detail displayed on every aspect of the ship and the surrounding scene is simply amazing! The inscriptions include “ANTIGUA & BARBUDA” in a very fitting bold script. Also included is the year of release, 2019.

As the first of eight unique releases scheduled for the second annual Eastern Caribbean EC8 bullion coin program, this 2019 Silver 1 oz Antigua & Barbuda Rum Runner is a spectacular companion to the 2018 edition. With a very limited mintage of only 25,000, there is no question that these will quickly sail out of reach to distant shores. Time to climb aboard!

Very pretty coin with artistic detailing. Same problem, coin in capsule glued to cardboard. Can someone help me please. How can I remove it without damaging the coin and capsule. These are purchased as gifts. I love your web site, and the unusual coins you present, but the cardboard has got to go. I'll be looking forward to the next coin in series, cardboard and all.
