The reverse features an extreme close-up, front-facing view of the heads of two buffalo positioned very closely together. The closeness allows only half of each of the animals' heads to display. This is a remarkable design, displaying with incredibly fine detail the magnificence of the African buffalo.

The most intriguing aspect of this striking design is the presentation of the two coins side by side in the double-capsule. The resulting effect produced is an image of a third buffalo's full head appearing between the two, visually made up of the two half-images displayed on the two coins.
