Scottsdale Mint, in partnership with the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), is returning for the second annual release schedule of the extremely popular EC8 8-coin series, featuring the eight Eastern Caribbean Island nation members. Included are Antigua & Barbuda, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Anguilla, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, and Saint Lucia. The fifth new edition to release is this 2019 1 oz Gold Montserrat Emerald Isle BU.
Each of the first series 2018 8-coin editions quickly became best-sellers and maintained strong series popularity throughout the full release cycle. Now, with this fifth 2019 release, the series has passed the halfway mark! We are experiencing an even greater response to each edition than in 2018.
The new design for the 2019 1 oz Gold Montserrat Emerald Isle ECCB coins is absolutely stunning! As noted by the mint, "The design is a salute to the Irish history of the island ‑ the only place outside of Ireland where St. Patrick's Day is a national holiday (and celebrated all week long!). Irish-Catholic indentured servants became the first European settlers of Montserrat when they were shipped out from neighboring St Kitts in 1632. They proliferated as sugar and lime barons and in 1768, 70% of the inhabitants of Montserrat identified as Irish. The nickname, "The Emerald Isle of the Caribbean" is derived from its visual resemblance to coastal Ireland and its strong Irish ancestry.
The very attractive obverse will be common to all eight EC8 2019 releases. The inset features the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Distinctive laurels of evergreen shrubs frame the portrait on either side, nearly filling the center inset. A narrow band encircles the rim, which includes the inscriptions, "EASTERN CARIBBEAN CENTRAL BANK" at the top, and "1 oz .999 Gold . QUEEN ELIZABETH II . TEN DOLLARS" at the bottom rim.
This fresh, new 2019 reverse design displays a beautifully ornate Irish harp, with various sizes of four-leaf clovers arranged on either side. The rim band is filled with an incredibly detailed Celtic knot rope. Inscriptions include "MONTSERRAT" at the top, with the issue date of 2019 just below. At the bottom is displayed "EMERALD ISLE OF THE CARIBBEAN" with alternating sizes of dots filling the gap at the rim band on either side. This beautifully detailed 2019 1 oz Gold Montserrat Emerald Isle of the Caribbean coin is a real treasure!
