$32.87This very striking new series Chinese Myths & Legends is introduced by this incredibly fine 2022 1oz Australia Chinese Myths & Legends: Phoenix Silver BU coin. This picks up the theme introduced by The Perth Mint in a 2017 release. That highly-popular coin featured a Phoenix and phoenix design. With the introduction of this new 2022 release, we again encounter this Phoenix among the clouds. However, this time the story has a different ending.
As a legal tender offering by Australia, the obverse displays the 6th generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II to be displayed on Australian coins, designed by Jody Clark. Inscriptions within the rim band include, "ELIZABETH II . AUSTRALIA . 1oz 9999 Ag . 2022 . 1 DOLLAR."
The reverse features a phoenix, with a flower in its beak from the paulownia tree. The rare and immortal Phoenix represents new beginnings and prosperity and is typically featured with characteristics of a mix of other birds, such as the peacock, parrot, swallow, pheasant, and mandarin duck. Inscriptions include The Perth Mint iconic "P" mintmark displayed among the clouds in the upper right near the Phoenix's tail. Also displayed are the initials of the designer, "NM," at the lower right rim.
