2023 Gold Royal Mint Britannia 1 Oz BU - TYPE 1

This gorgeous new 2023 1 oz Gold Britannia coin contains one troy ounce of .999 fine Gold, The Royal Mint's most straightforward Gold release. The effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is displayed on the obverse, which Royal Mint engraver Jody Clark designed. The background is filled with an eye-catching guilloché security pattern. With the recent death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, the 2023 date mark will be the last to feature Britain's longest-reigning monarch. The 2023 Queen Elizabeth II Gold Britannia Type 1 will be manufactured for only a few weeks before the series is replaced by coins featuring a new King Charles III portrait.

Britannia, the powerful, watchful female personification of the United Kingdom, is depicted on the reverse. Britannia holds a trident in one hand, prepared to defend the seas. On the other hand, she wields a large shield emblazoned with the image of the British flag, prepared to defend the realm. Britannia has appeared on British coinage for centuries as a symbol of power and integrity. The narrow rim contains inscriptions such as "BRITANNIA 2023 1 oz 999 FINE Gold."

The reverse of this Gold Coin has four visible security elements. Every element enhances the current design while also improving anti-counterfeiting measures.

  • The background pattern is a wave pattern that captures the light on the coin's surface. This pattern simulates the sea waves off the coast of Great Britain. This not only provides an appealing texture but also raises protection.
  • Britannia's shield also has fine, smooth lines. Again, this is a design improvement and a rise in protection.
  • The third element includes a holographic image of a padlock within a tiny circle in the lower left corner. The picture of the trident changes as the coin is tilted.
  • The final security upgrade features the Latin phrase "Decus Et Tutamen," meaning "an ornament and a safeguard." This term is micro-etched in tiny letters along the coin's inner rim.
