BOLD is excited to announce Australia's Perth Lunar Series III's fourth Lunar Year release. Global collectors have already expressed their overwhelming approval of Perth's decision to introduce Series III during the 2020 lunar cycle as part of this year's Lunar Rabbit offering. And judging by this 2023 Gold 1/4 oz Australia Perth Lunar Rabbit BU design, Perth is on a roll!
Since 1995, The Perth Mint has joyfully offered an unique design concept celebrating the current year's animal, which represents one of the ancient Chinese lunar calendar's 12 animals. In 2023, we celebrate the Year of the Rabbit, the fourth animal in the Chinese zodiac's 12-year cycle.
As noted by the mint, "According to one Chinese legend, the animals are in their order after a race across the river. The rabbit was in fourth place. The rabbit kept pace with the Tiger but got caught on a branch in the river. The dragon ended up saving the rabbit by using his breath to push the rabbit across the finish line. The personality traits of those born under this sign include intelligence, loyalty, and compassion"
The obverse of this 2023 Gold Coin depicts a rabbit mid-hop among grasses with feathery plumes. Inscriptions include the Chinese character for the Year of the Rabbit and the phrase "Rabbit 2023." The iconic "P" Perth mintmark appears in the lower right corner.
The reverse for the series depicts the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, along with the coin's 1/4 oz weight and .9999 purity, and the (AUS) 25 dollar face value as legal tender offerings by Australia.
