Silver Great Britain Britannia *Random Date* – 1 oz (Our Choice)

This 1 oz Silver Britannia BU (Random Date) coin contains one troy ounce of .999 fine silver - the purest of silver released by The Royal Mint. The obverse displays a profile of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II OR His Majesty King Charles III.  Coins prior to 2016 feature the 4th official portrait introduced in 1998. Beginning in 2016 a new design by a Royal Mint engraver, Jody Clark, was selected to refresh the portrait. This was quite an honor for the artist. Interestingly, he submitted his design anonymously in a competition. In Clark's own words, "I wanted to make her look less stern, to give her a slightly warmer expression. I hope she thinks it is a fitting and accurate representation."

The reverse also was updated in 2017, still featuring the helmeted Lady Britannia. She stands with a trident grasped in one hand to defend the seas, and in the other, a shield, graced with the image of Great Britain's flag to defend the realm. As a symbol of strength and integrity, Britannia has for centuries been featured on British coinage. She is encircled with the inscriptions, "BRITANNIA," the year of release, weight, and purity. New beginning in 2017, a radial sunburst pattern was added to the background, providing a very attractive texture as well as anti-counterfeiting security.
