The obverse side of the American Eagle coin was designed by Adolph Weinman in 1916 and used in the coins from 1986. The design includes the portrayal of Lady Liberty walking with the rising sun in the background. The Lady has her right hand outstretched in a welcoming pose, and the other hand holds an olive branch that symbolizes peace. Being draped in the American flag, Liberty walks surrounded by inscriptions of “LIBERTY” and “In God We Trust”. Below the effigy is the year 2024 engraved on the ground on which Liberty walks.

The reverse displays Emily Damstra’s design of the American bald eagle, a symbol of courage, strength, immortality, and freedom. The eagle has its wings outstretched as it seems to approach landing with an olive branch in its talons that represent peace. The portrayal of the eagle is encircled by various inscriptions for the country of issue, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “ONE DOLLAR”, “1OZ. FINE SIVER” and the motto of the US, “E PLURIBUS UNUM".

The American Eagle Silver Coin

The American Silver Eagle coins are minted in the US Mint facilities of the San Francisco Mint, the Philadelphia Mint and the West Point Mint. The ‘W’ mark on the coin depicts that it has been minted in the West Point facility. The coin was introduced in 1986 and is still minted with a different reverse design known as Type 2 by Emily Damstra. The Type 1 reverse had the heraldic eagle by John Mercanti minted from 1986 through 2021.
