$5 Indian Gold Half Eagle Coin (MS61, Random)

BOLD is proud to offer the $5 Indian Gold Half Eagle Coin from the US Mint which has derived its name from the original Gold Eagle Coin with the face value of $10. The Indian Head Eagle design by Saint Gaudens is said to be the inspiration for the Half Eagle gold coins, designed by Bela Lyon Pratt. The $5 and the $2.50 Indian Head Gold coins were the only coins from the US Mint with an incuse relief design.

The obverse of the $5 Indian Gold Half Eagle Coin features the closeup effigy of an Native American Indian wearing a full traditional headdress. The effigy is surrounded by 13 stars representing the 13 colonies of the United States of America. Above the effigy is the word, “LIBERTY” inscribed and the year below it.

The reverse side of the coin bears the iconic American bald eagle perched on a bundle of arrows that is coiled by an olive branch. On either side of the eagle are the motto of the US, that is, “IN GOD WE TRUST” on the right and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on the left meaning, ‘Out of Many One.’ On the edge of the coin are the inscriptions, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. TWO DOLLARS” representing the country of issue and face value.

The $5 Indian Head Half Eagle Gold Coin

The $5 Indian Head Half Eagle Gold Coin was minted by the US Mint in the period of 1908 to 1916 and one year in 1929. After the introduction of the Indian Head Eagle coin designed by Augustus Saint Gaudens, the government turned their attention towards the coin’s fractional counterparts such as the half eagle and quarter eagle. Designed by Bela Lyon Pratt, the half eagle gold coin was minted in the facilities of Denver (D), New Orleans (O), San Francisco (S), and Philadelphia (no mint mark).
