The obverse side is reminiscent of the Texas Commemorative Dollar, of which the 1 oz Texas Copper Round is a copy. It shows an American bald eagle standing tall on an olive branch with its natural grace and beak features well illustrated on a background of the Texas state symbol, the lone star. Around this scene are several stars; every one of these stars represents the states of the United States. Above them, the inscriptions are “E PLVRIBVS VNVM” and “IN GOD WE TRVST,” which are the U.S. motto.
The reverse side of the copper round displays impeccably detailed imagery derived from the original Texas Commemorative Dollar. The central portrait is an angel holding the emblem of victory and an olive branch in her hands. Flanking the angel are the effigies of Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston, the six flags of Texas, and the Alamo. The inscriptions on this side are “ONE TROY OUNCE .999 FINE COPPER,” depicting the weight and purity, “LIBERTY” on a ribbon, and “REMEMBER THE ALAMO,” which is the Texan battle cry.
The Texas Commemorative Dollar, valued at fifty cents, was issued from 1934 to 1938 and is often referred to as a half-dollar. In 1933, Congress approved the coin following a proposal from the American Legion’s Texas Centennial Committee to raise funds for the centennial of Texas’s independence from Mexico. The coin's design was crafted by Pompeo Coppini and produced at the Denver, San Francisco, and Philadelphia mints. Furthermore, the 1 oz Texas Copper Round (GSM) from the Golden State Mint (GSM) serves to honor this significant history and to enhance the awareness of Texas’s ongoing quest for freedom.
