The reverse design features the Park during the Defenders Day celebration, a highly anticipated event held at Fort McHenry annually. The fireworks harken back to the Forts key role during the War of 1812. So moved by the scenes that transpired at Fort McHenry during two fateful days in September 1814, Francis Scott Key was inspired to write a poem he entitled "Defense of Fort M'Henry." Termed the Battle of Baltimore, this battle was deemed a key victory defending against the British. The poem was later set to music, and well received as "Star Spangled Banner." Congress finally made it our National Anthem in 1931. This ATB coin commemorates both the important history of the Fort, as well as the anthem it inspired.
The diversity of terrain found at Great Basin NP is impossible to exaggerate. Whether you start at Lehman Caves, or the summit of Wheller Peak, or the beautiful wilderness areas, you will not run short of adventure. Chosen as the theme of this coin is another magnificent distinction, the Bristlecone Pine. Pictured is a single Bristlecone in a rocky glacial moraine. Some of those found in the Park are estimated older than 4,000 years.
The reverse design depicts Mt. Chocorua, the well-known easternmost peak of the Sandwich Range. The foreground focus is centered on one of the many pristine streams, which along with five river systems and multiple lakes sustain a very healthy wildlife environment. This coin's design captures the natural rugged beauty of White Mountain.
The reverse design features the truly magnificent sight of this 60 ft. mountain sculpture in the process of being sculpted. Pictured is a workman with hammer and chisel in hand. Dangling from a rope, he sits in a work swing, as he smooths the details of Thomas Jeffersons face. Mount Rushmore was established as a National Memorial in 1925, two years prior to commencing the massive undertaking of sculpting these four portraits into the Mount's solid granite face, Featuring four U.S. Presidents, who stood at highly definitive junctures in our Nations history during its 1st 150 years. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt, each faced the times in which they served with distinction. This ATB coin design also seeks to represent this amazing National Monument with distinction.
The reverse design depicts the statue of Master Commandant Oliver Hazard Perry, honoring those who fought in the Battle of Lake Erie (War of 1812). In the background, rising 352 feet in the sky is the International Peace Memorial, which celebrates the sustained, perpetual peace between Great Britain, Canada, and the United States. This very finely designed ATB coin is a striking commemoration to this important and fascinating historical site.
