2022 Lunar Year of the Tiger

Each year since 1995, The Perth Mint has proudly offered a distinctive new design celebrating the current year's animal that represents one of the 12 animals of the ancient Chinese lunar calendar. For 2022 we celebrate the third animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac, the Year of the Tiger.

As noted by the mint, "Those born under the sign of the Chinese lunar tiger in 2022, 2010, 1998, 1986, 1974 and each 12th preceding year are said to be natural leaders blessed with courage, charm and confidence"

Delightful Design

As legal tender offerings by Australia, the obverse for the series depicts the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Inscriptions include, "ELIZABETH II . AUSTRALIA along with the coin's 1 oz weight and 9999 purity, and the (AU) 1 Dollar face value.

The reverse of this 2022 Silver 1oz Australia Perth Lunar Tiger Proof coin features a delightful scene depicting an adult tiger and its young cub closely following behind. The rocky terrain allows the cub to learn how to navigate through difficult paths while safely keeping close to its parent's lead. The terrain also displays ferns and bamboo along the way. Inscriptions include the Chinese character for Year of the Tiger and "TIGER 2022." The iconic P Perth mintmark is at the left rim. The overall design is continues the wonderful theme featuring an adult and its young interacting!
