In honor of their 825th anniversary, the Vienna Mint proudly presents a limited edition three-coin series detailing its fascinating story. The inaugural release featured a very powerful and strikingly-detailed depiction of Duke Leopold V in full armor. The second offering featured the stunning depiction of of the original fortress of Wiener Neustadt, built by Duke Leopold V. Both releases were a stunning tribute to an important part of the history of both Duke Leopold V and the Vienna Mint. This 2019 1 oz Silver Austrian 825th Anniversary Robin Hood continues that story.

The third and final release of the series features Robin Hood, whose legend was born out of the heavy taxation imposed by England in order to pay the ransom for Richard the Lionheart. Robin Hood has since become synonymous with the struggle against oppressive taxation. As noted by the mint, "Whether Robin Hood really existed is uncertain. What is clearer, however, is that the taxation imposed on the people of England in order to raise the huge ransom caused violent social unrest in the country, which historians believe led to the origin of the legend of Robin Hood."

The Legend Lives On!

The obverse of this remarkable final release of the Austrian Mint's 825th Anniversary is common to the 3-coin series. It features Leopold V's equestrian seal, depicting him as a strong military commander on horseback, proudly displaying his banner and shield. Inscriptions include "REPUBLIK OSTERREICH" arched at the top rim, with the coin's face value, "1,50 EURO . 2019" and its weight, "1 UNZE FEINSILBER" at the bottom.

The reverse features a stunning depiction of the legendary Robin Hood, with bow drawn, ready to release two arrows. The setting of the scene is among the leaves and vines of the forest. Robin is shown in the leather-laced clothing of the period, draped in a hood. His expression is highly detailed to display his full attention fixed on his intended target. Additional arrows fill the leather quiver on his back. The entire scene is remarkably well designed to display the full commitment and steady determination of which Robin Hood is so well known!
