The obverse of the coin features the right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Susanna Blunt. The reverse displays an intricately designed red-tailed hawk in full flight. Its wings spread full, as are its tail feathers. The hawk's razor-sharp beak is open wide, as though about to announce its presence. The bird's talons are extended and ready to grasp its prey. This is a closeup view of a fierce bird of prey in full action, yet beautiful in the fineness of its detail. The Birds of Prey 4-coin series released with two coins in 2014, and the final two in 2015. The series was received with much praise for the consistent quality of designs presented.
