History

The Silver 1 oz Mexican Libertad was introduced in 1982, with the original mintage of 1,049,680. The coins are minted in BU .999 fine silver, and continue to maintain strong global popularity as a bullion investment. Silver Libertads were produced only in 1 oz denomination from 1982-1990. Beginning in 1991 fractional sizes were added, including 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz. In 1996, two larger sizes were added, 2 oz and 5 oz. Mintages on the fractionals and larger sizes have historically been quite low. A Proof finish has also been produced since 1982. These have mainly been for collectors of fine bullion coins. The brilliance of these coins is magnificent! Both the 1 oz and fractional Proof sizes have had very low mintage, as have the 2 and 5 oz sizes.
