$38.44The 1 oz Silver Mexican Libertad is globally recognized as a sound world-bullion investment choice. The coins are produced by La Casa de Monde de Mexico, the oldest mint in all of the Americas. Containing 1 oz of .999 fine silver, these Silver Libertads are available at a relatively low premium over the spot price of silver. These Silver 1 oz Mexican Libertad Vintage Design (1982-1999) will be pulled from random dates. Please note that although these are BU condition, they are also older coins, and may contain various types of surface blemishes consistent with their aging.
The Silver Libertad is more than a good bullion investment coin, it also bears a beautiful and historic design. Normally considered the Vintage design, the date range from which these random date coins will be pulled cover 1982-1999. Within this date range there also could be variations in the design.
The obverse is a magnificently crafted, relief design featuring Mexico's National Shield, the official seal and current Mexican Coat of Arms. The shield features an image of a Mexican golden eagle, perched on a prickly pear cactus, with a rattlesnake dangling from its clenched beak. Closely encircling the central shield at the top is the inscription, "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS" (United Mexican States). A stunning decorative border encircles the rim.
The reverse features the vintage design of the forward-facing Winged Victory figure with the victory garland held high in he right hand. Her beautiful wings are outstretched high above her. The Winged Victory is a symbol of Mexican independence, which hails back to the Mexican Revolution. The actual statue stands proudly in the center of Mexico City. Behind her rise the twin Mexican volcanoes, Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl. Inscriptions include the coin's weight, purity, mint year, and the Mexican Mint's mark: "OM."
The Silver 1 oz Mexican Libertad was introduced in 1982, with the original mintage of 1,049,680. The coins are minted in BU .999 fine silver, and continue to maintain strong global popularity as a bullion investment. Silver Libertads were produced only in 1 oz denomination from 1982-1990. Beginning in 1991 fractional sizes were added, including 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz. In 1996, two larger sizes were added, 2 oz and 5 oz. Mintages on the fractionals and larger sizes have historically been quite low. A Proof finish has also been produced since 1982. These have mainly been for collectors of fine bullion coins. The brilliance of these coins is magnificent! Both the 1 oz and fractional Proof sizes have had very low mintage, as have the 2 and 5 oz sizes.
