2018 Silver 30 g China Panda

China first introduced the Silver Panda coin series in 1983. Each year since, a new design variation of the Panda has been released. This 2018 is a beautiful example of the unique designs, which have made the series very popular among collectors and investors alike.

The 2018 reverse design features a bold, close-up view of a single Giant Panda. Its head nearly fills the entire field, with just the top of its shoulders visible. The focus is on the panda's expression, as it gazes intently on the leafy bamboo branch in its hand. In the background is the traditional wall of bamboo. The very top and bottom of the coin displays a patchwork of leaves. This is a wonderful design, which at once captures your eye (and your heart)!

The obverse displays an inset image of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests in the Beijing Temple of Heaven. Inscriptions include, "People's Republic of China" in Chinese, encircling the top rim. The release year is at the bottom.

Silver Pandas are based on the metric system of measure, containing 30 grams (.9645 ounces) of fine silver. Every coin is guaranteed to be in Gem Brilliant Uncirculated condition and comes in a clear plastic holder.

History

The Silver Pandas were first minted in 1983. The first 3 years of mintage were in proof quality condition, and had a limited mintage of 10,000 pieces for each year. No Silver Pandas were struck in 1986, but they have been minted every year since. Each year, the design of the panda changes, making them highly collectible. The only year they didn't change design was 2002, which used the same design as 2001. Beginning with the 2016 release, all the mint's bullion coins will be in metric weight.

The popularity of the China Panda series has grown exponentially over the years. The panda in Chinese culture is recognized as a symbol of peace and friendship. The Silver Panda's relatively low mintage has not kept pace with the worldwide demand, which is of great interest to collectors. What's not to love about a bullion series dedicated to one of the most adored animals in the world?
