The Republic of Korea and KOMSCO take great pleasure in announcing their inaugural release of the 10 oz Silver Taekwondo edition medallion. This stunning 2019 10 oz Silver South Korea Taekwondo medallion combines the art of taekwondo with a modern design and style.
KOMSCO continues to create and produce medallions that capture the beauty and essence of their design's inspiration. The taekwondo medallion is no exception. With an extremely limited mintage of only 300 worldwide, this release is certain to move quickly. If you are at all interested, you would do well to lock in your purchase during the Pre-sale period.
Taekwondo, which translates to "foot, fist, art" or "the way of hand and foot," was developed during the 1940s and 1950s by Korean martial artists with experience in both Chinese and Korean martial arts. It is characterized by its emphasis on head‑height kicks, jumping and spinning kicks, and other fast-kicking techniques. General Choi Hong Hi, generally regarded as the founder of taekwondo, discovered that speed is more important than size when generating power. He based this on his study of bio-mechanics and Newtonian physics.
The medallion's obverse presents a beautiful and active scene, featuring a Yin Yang symbol on the left center of the design. The darkness of the Yin is accented by slightly-angled fine, horizontal lines against the frosted background. The lightness of the Yang is from the unfrosted silver. A circle-inset fills the head of the Yang with the security feature of a latent image of the medallion's fineness of "999" hidden within the fine vertical lines. The active part of the design is produced by swirls of heavier lines that appear to feed into the Yin from the top, and the Yang from the bottom. The overall design is very clean and attractive, with a nicely-textured frosted background. Inscriptions at the lower right include "2019" in a smaller type, with "KOREA" in a larger type stacked below.
The reverse is where the real action is! A young taekwondo practitioner demonstrates a high kick that will surely land on his opponent. The motion of his kick is illustrated by an emblazoned swirl that begins at the start of his kick and ends at the point where contact is made. The background is stylized with heavier, irregular texturing appropriate to the active kick scene displayed. A second swirl lies just below the kicker. Inscriptions include "TAEKWONDO," at the upper right rim, while "10 oz FINE SILVER 999." is stacked in three lines at the left center of the design.
This finely-produced 2019 10 oz Silver South Korea Taekwondo BU medallion will be an incredible addition to any collection! It would also be a very generous 1st place award for an advanced student in competition.
