The Art of Swiftness and Physics

Taekwondo, which translates to "foot, fist, art" or "the way of hand and foot," was developed during the 1940s and 1950s by Korean martial artists with experience in both Chinese and Korean martial arts. It is characterized by its emphasis on head‑height kicks, jumping and spinning kicks, and other fast-kicking techniques. General Choi Hong Hi, generally regarded as the founder of taekwondo, discovered that speed is more important than size when generating power. He based this on his study of bio-mechanics and Newtonian physics.

A Medallion With a Real Kick!

The medallion's obverse presents a beautiful and active scene, featuring a Yin Yang symbol on the left center of the design. A circle-inset fills the head of the Yang with the security feature of a latent image of the medallion's fineness of "999" hidden within the fine vertical lines. The active part of the design is produced by swirls of heavier lines that appear to feed into the Yin from the top, and the Yang from the bottom. The overall design is very clean and attractive. Inscriptions at the lower right include "2019" in a smaller type, with "KOREA" in a larger type stacked below.

The reverse is where the real action is! A young taekwondo practitioner demonstrates a high kick that will surely land on his opponent. The motion of his kick is illustrated by an emblazoned swirl that begins at the start of his kick and ends at the point where contact is made. A second swirl lies just below the kicker. Inscriptions include "TAEKWONDO," at the upper right rim, while "1 oz FINE SILVER 999." is stacked in three lines at the left center of the design.

This finely-produced 2019 1 oz Silver South Korea Taekwondo Proof 2-Medal Set will be a stunning addition to your collection! It is also a great way to reward your more advanced students for their proven disciplined efforts to advance in the art.
