In partnership with Samoa, Scottsdale Mint is proud to announce this brand new, limited mintage 2020 Samoa 1/2 oz Antique Silver Serpent of Milan coin!
The obverse beautifully displays in remarkable antiqued finish, the Samoan crest filling nearly the entire field. The rim is tightly-encircled by a distinctive beaded band. The inscriptions include "SAMOA . 2020" at the top rim. To the left is, "1/2 TROY OUNCE," and to the right is "999 FINE SILVER." the Samoan legal tender denomination of 1 TALA rests at the bottom rim.
The reverse features an antiqued finished, finely-detailed, depiction of the primary image displayed on the historic coat of arms of the House of Visconti, the Serpent of Visconti. The large serpent is shown rising up in the act of swallowing a child. The Visconti line began their rise to power in Milan during the 11th century, and continued into the Middle Ages, until 1447. The design is accented by decorative elements that includes a wreath of olive leaves encircling the rim.
