This very fine 2022 Great Britain Myths & Legends Maid Marian 1oz Gold BU coin continues the series with a legend that never fails to excite the imagination of both young and the not so young. Having featured Robin Hood on the inaugural Myths & Legends series release, how could we possibly move on without first returning to consider the incredibly important role Maid Marian had in the Robin Hood legend?

As introduced by the mint,

"Centuries after his tales were first told around British campfires and hearths, The Royal Mint is celebrating the legendary hero Robin Hood. The iconic character, who famously stole from the rich to give to the poor, appears on the first coin in a new bullion collection inspired by myth and legend. The hero of folklore will soon be followed by two more coins inspired by the tale, featuring the courageous heroine Maid Marian and Robin Hood's trusted companion Little John."

Legend - Maid Marian

As a legal tender offering of Great Britain, the obverse of this 2022 Great Britain Myths & Legends Maid Marian 1oz Gold BU coin displays the right-facing effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, created by Jody Clark. Inscriptions include "ELIZABETH II D. G. REG. F. D. 100 POUNDS."

The reverse features a wonderful scene of Maid Marian in Sherwood Forest, hidden by the dense vegetation and trees. The quiver on her back is full of arrows as she keeps watch. The legend of Robin Hood has much to say concerning Maid Marian. She is not only represented as fearless, but also as fine an archer as Robin himself. Marian is often depicted as a spy, who reports to Robin of the movements and threats of the Sheriff of Nottingham, Robin's arch enemy. And, of course, over time, Maid Marian becomes the true love of Robin.

The background texture is comprised of micro-dots, a remarkable table texture technology. Inscriptions encircling the rim include, "MAID MARIAN . 1 OZ . FINE GOLD . 999.9 . 2022". The designer's initials (JC) are displayed at the bottom right. The overall design is extremely well presented.
