$39.15BOLD is very pleased to offer this fourth release in the remarkable South Korea 1 oz Silver Tiger series. Introduced in 2018 as the complement to the Gold coin series, the Silver edition featured a matching design. That absolutely stunning design immediately captured the interest of the silver market, and it continues to increase with each new annual release. And that includes this brand new 2021 1 oz Silver South Korea Tiger BU medallion!
We were introduced to the series in 2018 with a view of an incredibly handsome tiger displaying its sleek, powerful, prowess while quietly moving through the jungle on the hunt. Following the series into 2019 with the 2nd release, we were astounded by the intense fierceness depicted at the moment before the lion ripped into its stalked prey.
Keeping with the peaceful depiction of a tiger in the 2020 version, we are not up close to experiencing the thrill of the hunt or the ferocity of the capture. No, we are afforded a glimpse of a tiger at rest. Alert, yes, but relaxed.
The obverse features a large image of a tiger resting quietly near a grove of bamboo trees in Gangneung, a municipal city in the province of Gangwon-do on the east coast of South Korea. A temple is in the background. Inscriptions are: "KOREAN TIGER 2021" on the upper right of the round with a silhouette of a tiger footprint next to it, "1oz" on the middle right, and "GANGNEUNG" placed vertically on a bamboo culm.
Common to the series, the reverse displays a remarkable design, using characters from the Korean alphabet to form the shape of the Korean Peninsula. The larger letters spell the country's official name. The overall stylistic effect is stunning! An attractive narrow band encircles the rim, which displays a pattern of the tiger's stripes. The inscriptions within the band include, "The REPUBLIC OF KOREA" at the top rim, and "FINE SILVER 999" at the bottom. To the left of the peninsula, design is the national emblem displayed on the Republic of Korea's flag. To the right is the unique anti-counterfeiting security feature of a latent image engraving, which very faintly displays, "999 Ag" in a small circle.
The Korean Tiger series was launched in 2016, offering only in 9999 fine gold. The series received immediate worldwide acclaim for its distinctive design and stunning production quality. The gold series' popularity has continued to increase through the following three releases. Following the extremely successful 2018 and 2019 releases of the 999 fine silver companion series, we are excited to see this remarkable fourth release. This has certainly developed into a proven series with all the magnificence and production quality as displayed on the original gold.
