2021 Silver 1 oz Chiwoo Cheonwang 1 Clay BU

We are certain that you will join BOLD in our excitement at the news of the 6th release of the highly popular South Korean Chiwoo Cheonwang bullion series. From its first release in 2016, each annual design has clearly demonstrated stunningly imaginative views of this magnificent historic warrior, to whom much fable has been attributed over the centuries. The impeccable production we have come to expect from KOMSCO Mint, coupled with the very limited mintage should make this brand new 2021 Silver 1 oz Chiwoo Cheonwang 1 Clay BU jump right to the top of your Must Have list!

Who is Chiwoo Cheonwang?

The mint explains: Chiwoo Cheonwang is a well-known symbol in South Korea. Chiwoo Cheonwang is known throughout Korean lore and legend as a God of War. He wears a demon-like mask, casts magical spells, carries a large shield with his mask engraved on the front, and is believed to control the weather!

Do ggae bi!

The obverse, though common to the series, is anything but common! Displayed in exquisite detail is Do ggae bi (or, Dokkaebi), which should always be pronounced with an exclamation point! Do ggae bi (!) is a mythical figure from Korean lore that had the power to protect from evil spirits. The design displayed for this 2021 release has been completely updated, adding more detailed nuances along with a set of curved horns. The new image is based upon a patterned tile housed in the National Museum of the Republic of Korea.

Inscriptions include "REPUBLIC OF KOREA" encircling the top rim, and "2021 FINE SILVER 999" at the left rim, with "1 CLAY" at the right. Below the image is a unique, latent image engraving, that very faintly displays, "999" in a small circle. "KOMSCO" is inscribed at the bottom rim.

The "1 Clay" is a new measurement developed by KOMSCO. It references 1 unit of 1 troy oz of the metal. The word clay is considered to be of the soil, out of which the metal was derived.

Chiwoo ‑ God of War!

The reverse depicts a sealed gate that has surged from the underground of the Chiwoo Empire. The warrior, Chiwoo Cheonwang faces the gate with his sword & shield. "CHIWOO CHEONWANG" is inscribed.
