Scottsdale Mint, in partnership with the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), has returned for the second annual release schedule of the extremely popular EC8 8-coin series, featuring the eight Eastern Caribbean Island nation members. Included are Antigua & Barbuda, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Anguilla, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, and Saint Lucia. The sixth new edition to release is this 2019 1 oz Gold Anguilla Lobster.
Each of the first series 2018 8-coin editions quickly became best-sellers, and maintained strong series popularity throughout the full release cycle. Now, with this sixth 2019 Anguilla release, only two releases are left to complete your 2019 series collection!
Although each of the ECCB Island counties receive international recognition for their local cuisine, Anguilla is generally known as the "Culinary Capital of the Caribbean." With the focus on locally caught seafood, particularly shellfish, cultural influences bring out the best of African, French, Creole, and Spanish dishes, all with a distinctive Caribbean flair! This, as well as the fact that lobster is one of Anguilla's leading seafood exports, is wonderfully represented in the coin's design.
The obverse is common to all eight EC8 2019 releases. The inset displays the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Distinctive laurels of evergreen shrubs frame the portrait on either side, nearly filling the center inset. A narrow band encircles the rim, which includes the inscriptions, "EASTERN CARIBBEAN CENTRAL BANK" at the top, and "1 oz .999 GOLD . QUEEN ELIZABETH II . 10 DOLLARS" at the bottom rim.
The reverse features a silhouette of a Caribbean lobster, which displays only its head and massive claws. The lobster is stylized with the addition of textured bubble effect covering its body. Below the lobster is the rocky ocean floor. Inscriptions at the top rim include "ANGUILLA 2019" The overall design is quite distinctive!
This highly-popular series has a very limited mintage of only 2,500 per release. Its fresh design is also a stunning addition to the overall series. You should not delay as popularity continues to rise as the 2019 series nears its completion!
