2023 Gold Royal Mint Britannia 1/2 oz BU - Type 1
The Royal Mint's purest gold release, this stunning new coin contains one troy ounce of.999 fine gold. The effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is pictured on the obverse, which was designed by Royal Mint engraver Jody Clark. The background is filled with an eye-catching guilloché security pattern. With the recent loss of Her Majesty, Elizabeth II, the 2023 date mark will be the final one to feature Britain's longest-reigning monarch. This coin will be produced for only a few weeks before the series is replaced by coins featuring a new King Charles III portrait.
Britannia, the strong, watchful female symbolic representation of the United Kingdom, is displayed on the reverse. Britannia holds a trident in one hand, ready to protect the seas. On the other hand, she wields a big shield bearing the image of the British flag, prepared to defend the realm. Britannia has appeared on British coinage for centuries as a symbol of power and integrity. The narrow rim band contains inscriptions such as "BRITANNIA 2023 1 oz 999 FINE Gold."
This Gold Coin features four visible security elements added to the reverse. Each element complements the existing design while also improving anti-counterfeiting measures.
- The background pattern is a wave pattern that captures the light on the ground of the coin. This pattern simulates the sea waves off the coast of Great Britain. This not only adds an appealing texture but also raises security.
- Britannia's shield also has fine, smooth lines. Again, this is a design improvement as well as an increase in security.
- The third element features a holographic picture of a padlock within a small circle in the lower left corner. The image of a trident changes as the coin is tilted.
- The last security upgrade includes the Latin phrase "Decus Et Tutamen," which translates as "an ornament and a safeguard." This phrase is micro-etched in tiny letters along the coin's inner rim.
