2023 Gold Royal Mint Britannia 1/4 oz BU - Type 1

This stunning new Gold Coin is made of one troy ounce of .999 fine gold, the purest gold published by the Royal Mint. The image of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is pictured on the obverse, which Royal Mint engraver Jody Clark designed. The background is filled with an eye-catching guilloché security pattern. With the recent death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, the 2023 date mark will be the last to display Britain's longest-reigning monarch. The 2023 Queen Elizabeth II Gold Britannia Type 1 coin will be generated for only a few weeks before the series is replaced by coins featuring a new King Charles III picture.

Britannia, the powerful, watchful female personification of the United Kingdom, is pictured on the reverse. Britannia holds a trident in one hand, ready to guard the seas. On the other hand, she wields a large shield emblazoned with the image of the British flag, prepared to protect the realm. Britannia has appeared on British coinage for centuries as a symbol of courage and integrity. The narrow rim band contains inscriptions such as "BRITANNIA 2023 1 oz 999 FINE Gold."

The reverse of this 2023 Gold Britannia 1/4 oz BU - Type 1 coin has four visible security elements. Each element enhances the existing design while also improving anti-counterfeiting measures.

  • The background pattern is a wave pattern that captures the light on the coin's surface. This pattern simulates the sea waves off the coast of Great Britain. This not only brings an attractive texture but also raises security.
  • Britannia's shield also has good, smooth lines. Again, this is a design improvement and a rise in security.
  • The third element includes a picture of a padlock within a tiny circle in the lower left corner. Again, the concept of the trident changes as the coin is tilted.
  • The final security upgrade features the Latin phrase "Decus Et Tutamen," meaning "an ornament and a safeguard." This word is micro-etched in tiny letters along the coin's inner rim.

Highlights

  • 1/4 troy oz. of .999 fine gold in BU condition.
  • Obverse: Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is presented against the guilloché security pattern. Inscriptions involve "ELIZABETH II D. G. REG. F. D." and the face value of 25 pounds. This will be Her Majesty's last minting.
  • Reverse: Lady Britannia, wearing a helmet, stands with a trident in one hand and a shield in the other. Four new anti-counterfeiting security features were introduced in 2021, the most notable of which is the background wave pattern.
  • Sovereign coin backed by the British government.
