2023 Lunar Year of the Rabbit

Each year since 1995, The Perth Mint has proudly offered a distinctive new design celebrating the current year's animal that represents one of the 12 animals of the ancient Chinese lunar calendar. For 2023, we celebrate the fourth animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac, the Year of the Rabbit.

As noted by the mint, "According to one Chinese legend, the animals are in their order after a race across the river. The rabbit was in fourth place. The rabbit kept pace with the Tiger but got caught on a branch in the river. The dragon ended up saving the rabbit by using his breath to push the rabbit across the finish line. The personality traits of those born under this sign include intelligence, loyalty, and compassion."

As a legal tender offering by Australia, the obverse for the series depicts the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Inscriptions are "ELIZABETH II . AUSTRALIA . 1 oz 9999 Ag . 1 DOLLAR."
