As noted by the mint,

"Derived from a Greek word meaning ‘tail-devourer’, the ouroboros is an ancient symbol portraying a snake or serpent eating its own tail. Appearing in a variety of ancient cultures and beliefs as a circular or eight-shaped symbol, it represented the regenerative cycle of life, enlightenment, and renewal. A horizontal eight-shaped symbol was first used mathematically in the 17th century to denote the concept of the endless and unlimited. A line that never ends is commonly known as the infinity symbol. In modern mysticism and popular culture, the ouroboros encapsulates these ancient mythical and mathematical connotations as a celebration of eternity."

Matchless Design

The figure 8 design (or infinity symbol design!) meshes perfectly with the snake. The obverse design is displayed as two rings, accentuated by the finely engraved concentric lines that fill the background of the top and bottom loops of the figure-8. The concentric lines overlap in the center of the 8, where is displayed the 6th generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II depicted on Australian coins, designed by Jody Clark. Inscriptions are, at the top, "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA" and at the bottom, "2oz 9999 Ag 2022 2 DOLLARS." The antiquing is individually applied to each coin, resulting in a somewhat unique appearance to each.

Although the figure-8 coin base is both highly unique and even more so, perfectly fitting to represent the coin's theme, the incredible artwork will be what truly strikes you the most. The reverse features a blue- and yellow-scaled snake eating its tail. The Perth Mint 'P' mark is at the lower intersection of the two circles.
