The 2022 Gold 1/10 oz Spanish Iberian Lynx BU, is the first ever 1/10 oz bullion coin in Spain's history. From the mint: "The Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus) is a rare wild cat species native to Spain and Portugal. Due to many external threats such as ongoing road expansion and habitat reduction, the lynx is an endangered species and is on the IUCN Red List. The Iberian lynx look very similar to the Eurasian lynx, but are much smaller in comparison and have a more heavily spotted fur. However, just like their northern relatives, they are most easily recognized by the brush hairs on their ears and the distinctive whiskers."
The design is a wonderful tribute to this majestic animal, sadly in danger of extinction. The overall detail and the lynx's almost human-like sly expression, plus being the first 1/10 oz bullion coin in Spain's history, make this a must-have for any collection.
The coin's obverse features the Pillars of Hercules with the inscription "FELIPE VI RE DE ESPAÑA, "1/10 ONZA," and 999,9 ORO." On the pillars is inscribed "PLUS VLTRA," which means "further beyond" in Latin.
The coin's reverse presents the beautiful Iberian lynx with an expression that is almost human-like. Is the look one of mischief? One of slyness? Only the lynx knows! Inscriptions are "15 EURO CENT . 2022 . LINCE . IBERICO." The Royal Spanish Mint's logo is on the left.
