For the series format, Perth reached all the way back to the Middle Ages of France for fresh inspiration. The Next Generation series is minted in the ancient "heavy-foot" style, known as piedfort. Those were the days when smaller-diameter double-weights were popular. It was clear from the inaugural launch of this outstanding new series that Piedfort would soon become popular once again. As a legal tender offering of Australia, the obverse displays the 6th generation effigy of the late Queen Elizabeth II to be displayed on Australian coins, designed by Jody Clark. Inscriptions at the rim include, "ELIZABETH II . 1952-2022 . AUSTRALIA" at the top, and "2 oz 9999 Ag . 2023 . 2 DOLLARS" at the bottom. The entire background of both the obverse and reverse feature very finely-engraved radial lines. This provides both added security, as well as brightness to the featured design.

The reverse of this 2023 Silver 2 oz Perth Mint Next Generation: Mother & Baby Kangaroo Piedfort coin features a proud mama kangaroo with her small joey. This is an adorable presentation of the interaction between the mother and her baby. The Perth "P" mint mark is at the left center.
