These symbolize unity, beauty, and protection, completed by a pair of elephant tusks on either side, forming a semicircle. The other inscriptions on the obverse are: “SOUTH AFRICA” and “BIG FIVE 2024”.

The reverse side of the 2024 1 oz South Africa: Big Five Elephant Gold Coin bears the two halves of the faces of African Bush elephants. This design is completed when multiple coins are lined up next to each other, completing the halves. In the center, the depiction of purity, face value, and weight is seen as “FIFTY RAND”, “1 oz”, and “Au 999.9”.
