This legendary warrior reached his peak in 1850 through 1886, when he joined one of the Central Apache bands to carry out raids against the Mexican and US military campaigns in the Mexican and American territories.
In the 19th century, Apache chieftain Geronimo challenged Mexican and American encroachment into Native territory. Both his countrymen and adversaries revered his guerrilla combat. After surrendering in 1886, his legacy of Native American resistance and tenacity lives on.
