Augustus Saint-Guadens' finely drawn depiction of Lady Liberty is displayed on the obverse of the gold coin. When the design was first featured on the coin in 1986, it was already renowned and ageless. This artwork was quite lovely, with Lady Liberty approaching us while holding an olive branch and a torch. The capital structure and the rising sun created a stunning backdrop. "LIBERTY" and the year of issue are inscribed around the portrait.
On the reverse side is Miley Busiek's design of an American bald eagle. The eagle family is symbolic of the adult and senior citizens in the United States who raise and guard the young. The female eagle is shown using her wings to shield the young one in the nest, as the male eagle approaches the nest holding an olive branch in its talons. The inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. 1/4 oz. FINE GOLD ~ 25 DOLLARS" and the US mottos "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST" are engraved around this portrayal.
The Coinage Act, 1792 states that the US government should produce its own currency and coins. This Act resulted in the foundation of the US Mint in Philadelphia. Since then, the US Mint is in the forefront of the precious metals industry. With its six facilities in the US, the Mint has been creating masterpieces for over 225 years.
