New for 2021, Perth Mint is pleased to announce the fourth edition of their wonderful Next Generation Piedfort series. The first three releases were astounding successes! For the series format Perth reached all the way back to the Middle Ages of France and Great Britain for fresh inspiration. The Next Generation series is minted in the ancient "heavy-foot" style, known as piedfort. Those were the days when smaller diameter double-weight's were popular. It was clear from the inaugural launch of this outstanding new series that piedfort will soon become popular once again. And this fourth release of the 2021 Silver 2oz Australia Next Generation Platypus Piedfort is certain to be well-received!

As unique as this double-weight coin's style is, the real focus should shine on the theme of the series. The Next Generation is a wonderful celebration of life in the wild extending across generations. Each coin design in the series will display a poignant scene of a mother and child representation of Australian wildlife. This fourth release features the iconic Platypus, with a truly wonderful natural scene.

Fun in the Water

As a legal tender offering of Australia, the obverse displays the 6th generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II to be displayed on Australian coins, designed by Jody Clark. Inscriptions at the rim include, "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA" at the top, and "2oz 9999 Ag . 2021 . 2 DOLLARS" at the bottom. The entire background of both the obverse and reverse feature very finely-engraved radial lines. This provides both added security, as well as brightness to the featured design.

The reverse of this 2021 Silver 2oz Australia Next Generation Platypus Piedfort coin features a poignant, close-up view of the mother Platypus frolicking in the water with her small baby. This is an adorable presentation of the interaction between the mother and her baby. The only inscription is the "P" Perth mintmark at the lower right rim.
