This second release in the Birds of Prey 4-coin series features the majestic bald eagle. Created by Emily Damstra, a highly acclaimed illustrator. Damstra's works have graced over a dozen coin designs for the Royal Canadian Mint. Her detailed illustrations have a way of capturing nature in living action. The obverse of the coin features the right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Susanna Blunt. The reverse displays a wonderful scene of a bald eagle ascending with a hapless fish clutched tightly in its talons. The eagle's powerful wings are spread high, revealing the fine detail of the design and impeccable engraving. The regal bird's eyes are set toward its high nesting as it continues to climb. The Royal Canadian Mint has commemorated some of Canada's most iconic birds of prey in this astounding 4-coin series. The featured bird designs of all four coins we created by Emily Damstra, a U.S. based illustrator. Having earned a Master of Fine Arts degree, Damstra specializes in illustrating themes centered in anthropology, botany, ecology, paleontology, and zoology. Her illustrations focus on detail as she attempts to capture and display something of the life strength of her subjects. Emily Damstra's work has certainly brought to life the featured birds in this current series!
