Noah’s Ark Silver Coins Series

Armenian bullion coins featuring the Noah's Ark motif have been produced by Armenia Mint since 2011. They come in a range of sizes with a fine weight of 999/1000 pure silver weighing between 14 ounces and 5 kg. The 1 oz. the coin is accepted as legal money in Armenia and has a face value of 500 Drams. The Leipziger Edelmetallverarbeitungs GmbH, a subsidiary of Geiger Edelmetalle, is the business that makes the coin. Similar to other bullion coins like the American Silver Eagle, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf, the coin's design is unchanging.

Design

The Armenian Coat of Arms is shown on the obverse of this special coin series. Along with the mint's emblem, the coin's face value in Armenian Drams, fineness, weight, and year of issuance are listed beneath. Around the group is written in both English and Armenian, "Republic of Armenia."

On the coin's reverse, a pattern with Noah's Ark at its center is shown. The white dove is soaring toward the ark while holding an olive branch in its beak. The sun and Mount Ararat may be seen in the distance. The word "Noah's Ark" is struck around the design and serves as both the coin's name and inscription.

Specifications

The quality of the Noah's Ark silver bullion coins is 999/1000. It has a 38.6 mm diameter with a reeded edge. Noah's Ark coins have been manufactured in the sizes and denominations of 1/4 ounce (100 Dram), 1/2 ounce (200 Dram) and 1 ounce ( since their debut in 2011. (500 Dram). Larger sizes are 5 ounces (1000 Dram), 10 ounces (5000 Dram), one kilogram, and five-kilogram coins were introduced in 2012. More than 5 million silver Noah's Ark coins have been manufactured and distributed worldwide since they were first introduced.

History

The bullion coin's design was chosen to reference the well-known biblical story of Noah's Ark. The story in Genesis describes how, with the exception of Noah and his family, God punished all of mankind for their sin by sending a flood. God warns Noah that a flood is coming and gives him specific instructions on how to construct an ark and pack it with two of each kind of animal. God later submerges the entire planet, but Noah, his family, and a few remaining animals are all rescued alive within the ark. After the floodwaters recede, Mount Ararat becomes the final resting place for Noah's ark.
