This 2018 1 oz Silver Cameroon Imperial Dragon proof-like BU coin showcases an ancient Chinese art-style. Closely following the finest detail, this Imperial Dragon design is drawn directly from art produced during the Ming Dynasty from the official Jiajing Emperor workshops (1521 to 1567).

Africa in Miniature

With this release, Scottsdale Mint introduces their first legal tender bullion coin struck for the Central Africa country the Republic of Cameroon. Often considered "Africa in Miniature," Cameroon's highly diverse culture, ethnic groups, climate types and natural resources reflect in miniature the African continent.

Jiajing Emperor Workshops - Exquisite!

The coin's obverse design displays the distinctive Republic of Cameroon Coat of Arms largely filling the center field. Inscriptions include "REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN" encircle the rim at the top and "1 TROY OZ . 500 FRANCS CFA . 999 SILVER" at the bottom. The release year is above the Coat of Arms. A narrow decorative band tightly encircles the rim.

The reverse features a very active and finely detailed scene of a dragon holding up the Chinese character sheng. with its front claws. This speaks of "divine" or "imperial majesty." Two additional characters are shown, one on either side of the sheng. On the right is fu and bi on the left, symbolizing "to add" or "to support." That is, the dragon is representative of the imperial majesty and authority invested in the ruling emperor.

The sheng is prominently displayed in a large, bold outline-script. The dragon's serpentine body is quite active as it appears to writhe, filling the lower area of the scene. As the beast turns its head slightly, its two horns are brought closer into view. Its open jaws reveal the terrible ferocity of its sharp teeth, as its long tongue flashes. The magnificent creature tightly grasps the sheng with its two front claws holding it as high as it can reach. The finest of detail breathes life into this awesome Imperial Dragon, disclosing its strength and invincible power. Completing the scene, the background is filled with various ornate images common to this dynastic period. As with the obverse, a narrow decorative band encircles the rim.
