China first introduced the gold Panda coin series in 1983. Each year since, a new design variation of the Panda has been released. This 2022 30 g gold China Panda is a wonderfully fresh example of the unique designs, which have made the series very popular among collectors and investors alike. With this year being the 40th anniversary of the first Panda coin in the series, this year's design is extra special.
Common to the series, the obverse displays an inset image of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests in the Beijing Temple of Heaven. Inscriptions include, "People's Republic of China" in Chinese, encircling the top rim. The release year is at the bottom.
The 2022 30 g Gold Chinese Panda reverse design features two pandas happily sliding down a snowy hill, one panda going headfirst down the hill with its front legs out as it slides on its stomach while the other panda is slides down the hill on its back with both its front and back legs up in the air. The 40th-anniversary mark inscribed on this side consists of "40" with a panda in the "0." Inscriptions also include the 10 Yuan face value, and "30 g Ag .999."
gold Pandas are based on the metric system of measure, containing 30 grams (.9645 ounces) of fine gold. Every coin is guaranteed to be in Gem Brilliant Uncirculated condition and comes in a clear plastic pouch.
The gold Pandas were first minted in 1983. The first 3 years of mintage were in proof quality condition, and had a limited mintage of 10,000 pieces for each year. No gold Pandas were struck in 1986, but they have been minted every year since. Each year, the design of the panda changes, making them highly collectible. The only year they didn't change design was 2002, which used the same design as 2001. Beginning with the 2016 release, all the mint's bullion coins were changed to metric weight.
The popularity of the China Panda series has grown exponentially over the years. The panda in Chinese culture is recognized as a symbol of peace and friendship. The gold Panda's relatively low mintage has not kept pace with the worldwide demand, which makes it of great interest to collectors. And, of course, what's not to love about a bullion series dedicated to one of the most adored animals in the world?
