The inaugural release of this new Fiji series by Scottsdale Mint is simply beautiful! We have seen many amazing island-themed designs produced by Scottsdale over the years, and this is certainly among the best. Working in association with the Reserve Bank of Fiji, this legal tender bullion annual series is poised to be very well-received by the global precious metals community of collectors and investors. This 2018 Gold 1 oz Fiji Pacific Dollar truly stunning!
With a higher mintage cap than usual for Scottsdale, the 10,000 would indicate a sound commitment towards the future of this annual release. Certainly, now is the time to get involved in the new series!
The obverse the Fiji Pacific Dollar displays the distinctive Fiji Coat of Arms, filling the center of the field. The background surface is lightly brushed in a circular pattern, adding a very pleasing effect. Encircling the the image are the inscriptions "FIJI . 2018 . 1 TROY OZ . 999 Gold . 5 DOLLARS." The design is accented by an attractive Polynesian-style border at the rim.
The reverse features a wonderfully stylized island scene of a grouping of palm trees filling the center inset. In fact, the image spills out into the band encircling the rim. This adds a nice sense of depth to the overall design. The background of the inset includes an orange-peel style surface effect. The single inscription at the top, in the rim band is "PACIFIC DOLLAR." As with the obverse, the rim band includes a lightly-brushed surface in a circular pattern. At the bottom rim the issue date "2018" is displayed as a latent-image that requires tilting the coin slightly to discern. This also serves as an anti-counterfeiting security feature.
Scottsdale is often envied by its peers for some of the most stunning and unique series designs in the private sector.
