Liberty Stands

The obverse of this striking 2023 1oz American Platinum Eagle BU features a remarkably fine design that was inspired by the Statue of Liberty. The designer was John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, retired. His artistic instincts came into clear focus as he studied Liberty's face. His design is referenced, "Liberty Looking to the Future." Liberty looks out over the Atlantic Ocean with a resolute, unflinching expression. She stands as a testimony of our nation's foundation - Liberty and Freedom. Her face and crown fill the field, with the inscription, "LIBERTY" encircling the top rim. At the right rim is displayed the release year and the indelible phrase, "IN GOD WE TRUST." At the lower left is inscribed, "E Pluribus Unum," (Out of Many, One). The designer's initials are on the left.

The reverse displays a stunningly detailed soaring eagle, with the rising sun in the background. Inscriptions include, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA . 999.5 PLATINUM . 1 OZ." The legal tender denomination of $100 is displayed at the bottom rim, along with the designer's initials, "TDR", Thomas D. Rogers, Sr., a former sculptor-engraver with the United States Mint and designer of several U.S. Coins.
