Augustus Saint-Gaudens designs the obverse of the coin and displays the head and neck effigy of the Lady Liberty. The lady wears the full headdress of the native American Indian that is engraved with “LIBERTY” on its hair band. Above the effigy are the 13 stars that pay homage to the original 13 colonies that combined to form the United States of America.
The reverse of the $10 Indian Gold Eagle Coin presents the American bald eagle, a sign of courage, strength, freedom, and immortality, perched on a bunch of arrows and an olive branch that is held in place by the talons of the eagle. The reverse also includes the inscriptions for the country of an issue as “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, the face value, “TEN DOLLARS”, and the mottos of the US, “In God We Trust” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on either side of the eagle.
The Indian Head Eagle was minted in the period 1908 to 1916 and irregularly until 1933 by the US Mint. Augustus Saint-Gaudens designs the portrayal of the Indian Head Eagle.
