This fifth design depicts the silverback from a different vantage. Something has arrested his immediate attention. He quickly looks up with a fierce growl! His keen eyes are fixed on the danger that has revealed itself crouching on a high limb above him. Although we cannot see what has caused this massive silverback to respond with this intense display, he is clearly ready to stand and defend himself and his troop.

Fierce Detail

This amazing close-up view of the gorilla's massive head and upper torso entirely fills the center field of the coin. The finest details of his expression are revealed. It seems to show the moment his surprise sparked the intense display power in his growl. This is an amazing scene. He is encircled by attractive border markings at the rim. Inscriptions arched at the top rim include "CONGO SILVERBACK GORILLA" and below is the coin's date, weight and purity. The reverse displays the crest of the Republic of Congo and face value of 5,000 Francs CFA.
