Each release of a new coin in the Eastern Caribbean Eight series brings anticipation and excitement. Scottsdale Mint certainly has met expectations with this latest release: the 2022 Silver 1 oz St. Kitts & Nevis Underwater Surfer BU! This fifth release captures a surfer underwater after ending another exciting ride on the waves of the Caribbean surrounding St. Kitts and Nevis. The agitated ocean is above her while aquatic plants point skyward below her.
The very attractive obverse will be common to all eight EC8 2022 releases. The inset features the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Distinctive laurels of evergreen shrubs frame the portrait on either side, nearly filling the center inset. A narrow band encircles the rim, which includes the inscriptions, "EASTERN CARIBBEAN CENTRAL BANK" at the top, and "1 oz .999 SILVER . QUEEN ELIZABETH II . TWO DOLLARS" at the bottom rim.
The reverse features a finely detailed surfer attempting to resurface after riding a wave in the Caribbean Sea that surrounds St. Kitts and Nevis. The agitated ocean is above her while aquatic plants are beneath her. Inscriptions are "St. Kitts & Nevis" and "2022."
Saint Kitts and Nevis are part of the Leeward Islands chain, and are separated by a mere 2-mile wide channel known as "The Narrows." It is known as one of the first Caribbean islands settled by Europeans, including both the British and French. It also has a long and intriguing history, which far predates the time of the European settlements. Interestingly, the written history of the two islands is said to be one of the longest in the Caribbean.
